Tang Martial Arts Center -- Shaolin Kung Fu and Tai Chi in Bradenton!

Many students have tendancy, at first to carry their legs. It is good therefore, to remember that it is harder for others to see your footwork when the back foot does the walking forward and the front foot does the walking backward. When one hols a stance, just before switching stances, there should be tension on the moving leg, but just enough to create an uncoiling effect. When one uses this principal in striking, the technique used will deliver more power.

While analizing fencing, I discovered that much like the sword being an extension of the arm, the fist is an exttension of the body. When throwing a punch, one should, on impact, follow the stryke with the motion of the rest of the body. It is a mistake to try and hit someone with strength. One should just relaxe and remember that the power comes from the motion of the technique. Sparring is a good way to practice these principals. One should show their friends the things they are learning, under the supervision of a higher level student of course, it is a good learning tool when one practices realistically.

There is no greater teacher than when one has someone to practice on. Master and stundent teach each other in this sense. Be gentle when practicing with normal people, never use what you learn in anger and only use it for morally sound reasons. Those are only a few words precaution. One can cause great harm to themselve,s and others when they use martial arts unwisely. Be aware of what you are doing when you spar and allways remember to act naturally. When you have to think about what you are doing, it has not yet become natural. Practice as long as it takes untill there is no thought, only reaction. learn to control the reaction and allways treat others with the respect you show your teachers and classmates.
